2024 Bookish Goals

2024 is a brand new year with all new bookish goals! Break out those glitter pens and grab a journal because we are going to set some amazing goals for ourselves!

In this blog I wanted to discuss the goals I’ve set for myself, more specifically bookish related goals. I love setting new goals, not just at New Year time but they’re great to set anytime. I love having manageable goals and making them pretty specific so you’ll see that in my list below. But without further ado, let’s jump into my goals for 2024!

1. Read 60 books

I set a goal of 50 books to read in the past couple of years. This year I wanted to challenge myself to read a little bit more. I have a good feeling about this year and like I mentioned above, I’m very goal-oriented so I like taking on this challenge.

A sub goal within this is that I want to read more of what’s on my shelf. Let’s be honest, all of us book dragons acquire a ton of books that end up being on our TBR list forever. This year I want to push myself to read what’s actually on my shelf! To do that, I’ve created a TBR jar that contains all the books on my shelf that I haven’t read yet. So whenever I’m not sure what I want to read, I just reach into the jar and let the TBR jar work its magic.

2. Start a bookclub in person here in Orlando

This has been a dream of mine for a while now. Last year, I went up to Georgia to visit my friend Kesley. I got to meet all of her wonderful friends and visit their local bookstore. They get together to discuss all things book related and I realized that I want that here in Orlando! I have several friends who I can discuss books in length with, including my sister, but nobody close enough that we can get together monthly for brunch and books. This is very much needed this year!

3. Acquire a trailer to convert into a mobile bookstore

This is a HUGE goal for me. Going back to the last goal about how my friend has a local bookstore. I realized that we don’t really have that type of environment here in Orlando. Don’t get me wrong we have a few really great independent bookstores. But I feel as if my city is lacking an important community that a bookstore and fellow bookworms can provide.

I’ve always dreamed of opening a bookstore, running a cafe inside where I make my own tea blends, and having a community come together to bond over fictional characters. In order to get this started I want to dip my toes in first. I want to start a mobile bookstore that I can take to farmers markets and fun, local events on the weekend. By the end of 2024 I’m going to acquire a trailer that we can begin to convert into a bookstore on wheels.

4. Write a full length book

This is also a pretty big goal for me. When I got into reading as a middle school girl, I came up with so many ideas for different books I wanted to write. Those ideas have never stopped coming to me and I’ve never lost the passion I feel in needing to get these stories out.

With all that being said, I’ve never actually written a full length novel, from start to finish. So this is the year that I’m going to make that happen. I have a writers group (it’s really just me and my bestie Jordan) that has been motivating me to write more and more everyday. I have a feeling this will be the year that we both make this goal a reality.

5. Go on a writers retreat

I think something that is going to keep me extremely motivated is planning a fun writers retreat with some friends. Tony (my husband) and I have talked about doing this little getaway. Nowhere far and nowhere expensive but somewhere we can seclude ourselves for a weekend and do nothing but write with our friends. Tony wants to work on screenplays and me and my friend Jordan want to write novels so it will be a weekend filled with writing and inspiration with each other!

6. Narrate audiobooks

This is a relatively new goal for me. Near the end of last year my husband, filmmaker and editor extraordinaire, needed my help doing some voiceover work for him for a project he was working on. It turned out, I was pretty good at it and loved it! It made me think that, with all the audiobooks I listen to, I should try to give this a go!

I have a theatre background and my husband is an amazing director, who also has a degree in acting and has been helping me put together demos to try and start doing this more often. I’ve signed up for some websites so that I can start auditioning and I’m so excited to get started!

Well, there you have it! These are only some of my goals for 2024 but these are all my book related ones I’ve set for myself in this new year. I love setting these for myself and challenging myself with something new every year. I’m excited to see what this year brings and I can’t wait to reflect on this year once I accomplish all of these goals!

Let me know what your goals are in the comments down below! They don’t have to be book related at all! I love seeing what other people are trying to accomplish and encouraging them to reach new heights. You can also check out my YouTube video down below where I talk about all of these goals!
