Reading, Writing, and Editing Goals for 2025

Welcome back to the blog! I know it’s been a minute since I’ve been able to update this blog and I sincerely apologize for that. But I do have a VERY good reason.

Tony and I are expecting our first baby this June! *cue cheering noises*

We are over the moon and so excited to welcome this baby into the world but let me tell you, the first few months were ROUGH. I had horrible morning sickness all day, everyday for several months. I couldn’t keep anything down and absolutely hated food. That’s just mind blowing to me because I love food and trying new things and to just abhor everything that came my way was astounding to me.

With all the being said, I was out of commission for a good while there. I didn’t want to read, write, or even look at a screen. But I’m well into the second trimester now and feeling way better and finally have that kick of energy back!

In this blog I first wanted to respond to my goals that I set for myself last year. While I didn’t hit many of my goals I still felt like 2024 was a successful year all around!

2024 Goals

Read 60 (70?) books

The first goal I set in 2024 was to read 60 books. Now when I went back through my blog and YouTube page I realized I said 60 books. However, on Goodreads I put 70. How this happened I have no idea. But either way I only read 56 books anyways so I didn’t hit either of them. However, I didn’t read ANYTHING in the months of November and December so I still feel like overall 2024 was a successful reading year!

Start an in person book club

My second goal was to start an in person book club here in Orlando. I also didn’t reach this goal but I found half success because my best friend Jordan moved to Orlando and we make up our own little two person book club just with ourselves!

Acquire a trailer for a mobile bookstore

Sadly, this didn’t happen either. A lot of things got in the way but I’m still striving towards this goal and will hopefully get one soon!

Write my novel that’s been in my brain forever

This book has been on my mind for so long and it was my goal to finish at least the first draft in 2024. While this didn’t come to fruition either I got really far into plotting it out (along with loosely what will happen in book 2 and 3) and was able to write the first 3 chapters! I still call this one a win.

Go on a writers retreat

I wasn’t able to do this unfortunately, but I did compete in a short story writing competition which was a lot of fun!

Narrate audiobooks

This was a no go as well but I’m hoping to dip my toes into this in 2025!

Reading, writing, and editing goals 2025

Without further ado I present my goals for 2025! I’ve divided them up into three different categories that I want to focus on this year. They are reading, writing, and my editing business. I tried to keep things just a little loose because I’m coming into this new year with thoughts of flexibility and adaptation. 2025 is all about going with the flow!

Reading goals

Since we have a lot of exciting things happening this year and probably a lot less free time, I’ve cut back on my reading goal. It’s still quite a bit I’ll admit but definitely less than I’ve strived for in the past. I’ve set my reading goal to 50 books!

My other goal within reading is to just enjoy it again. I don’t want to feel like I have to push myself to read or force anything. It’s going to be a big year and I only want to focus on things bringing me joy and if it happens to not be reading at the time then I don’t want to stress about it.

Writing goals

One goal that did carry over from last year is to finally write my book! I literally wrote this out in my journal as “WRITE THE DAMN BOOK”. I’m determined to complete it this year no matter what!

Overall, I’d just like to write more this year. This could be in the form of journaling, writing competitions, writing sprints (in person and online with friends), or writing groups. I just want to get into the habit of writing a little something consistently.

Editing Goals

Since my side business of editing really picked up in 2024 I wanted to continue and even expand on this in 2025. I’d love it if I could help at least ten authors with full developmental edits of their books. I love helping authors develop their stories and characters and just want to continue this in 2025!

The second goal I have within my editing business is to actually start adding some coaching services for authors. I love being a part of the editing process and think it would be fantastic to be with the writer from the concept of their story all the way through to being a published author, whether that be traditionally or self published. I also just love to be any writers personal cheerleader, motivating them to the end goal the whole way through.

Well there you have it, all my bookish goals for 2025. I’d love to hear from you down below in the comments if you set any goals for yourself this year and how you’re feeling about starting a brand new year! As always, if you’re a writer in need of an editor (or personal motivator) feel free to reach out to me here!

Also check out my YouTube page where I made a video discussing all of these goals and where I also post more bookish content!
